Rights. Upon acceptance, El Portal acquires: 1) worldwide rights to publish a(n) artist’s/writer’s contribution (i.e., flash fiction, short story, essay, etc.) in an upcoming edition of El Portal and any El Portal-affiliated media; 2) exclusive worldwide rights for a period of ninety (90) business days from the date of El Portal’s first publication of the submission in question; 3) non-exclusive perpetual rights to republish, store, syndicate, or distribute the submission or portions of the submission in English; and 4) the right to use the contributor’s name and likeness in a fair and dignified manner and to publish information about the contributor in connection with the advertising and promotion of El Portal and of the submission in question. 5) When exclusive rights expire after ninety (90) business days, the artist/writer is free to seek publication elsewhere, but El Portal must be credited in all subsequent publications of the submission in question. 6) All rights granted by this agreement are granted in perpetuity and applicable in all media including, but no limited to, all electronic media, internet, wireless or mobile platforms whether now known or hereafter created. 7) If a(n) artist/writer wishes to withdraw a submission from El Portal, s/he can do so within sixty (60) business days prior to the publication of the applicable edition of El Portal. Requests to withdraw content can be directed to the editor at firstname.lastname@example.org. 8) Artists/writers retain the copyrights of their respective submissions to El Portal.

Payment. El Portal does not pay contributors for submissions of any kind. All contributors receive two (2) free copies of El Portal. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact El Portal‘s editor at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Prizes. Only ENMU students qualify for prizes in Short Story, Poetry, and Art/Photography categories.
Simultaneous Submissions. El Portal accepts simultaneous submissions in the fiction, nonfiction, flash fiction, poetry, and photograph/art categories. We simply ask that you inform the editor (email@example.com) in a timely manner if any of your pieces have been accepted elsewhere so that they may be removed from consideration.
Author’s/Artist’s Biography. When entering a submission, please include a 20-50 word biography to be printed alongside your piece in the event that it is accepted for publication.
Submission Periods, Deadlines, Response Time, and Publication Cycle.

Response Time. Please allow for ninety (90) business days for a response from El Portal‘s staff. If you have not received a response at the end of ninety (90) business days, please send a query e-mail to El Portal‘s editor at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Publication Cycle. El Portal is published biannually.
Withdrawal. Artists/writers are free to withdraw any and all submissions from El Portal within sixty (60) business days prior to applicable edition’s publication. El Portal‘s staff would prefer that artists/writers not withdraw content from upcoming issues. Nevertheless, if artists/writers feel the need to withdraw content, they can do so by e-mailing the journal’s editor at email@example.com.
